Work is how you discover what your idea is about, what shape it must have, and how it holds it own in your world. It’s scary at first, starting something new and singular. There is safety in numbers. More is more. A collection is a body of work. But creating a collection is intimidating. Until you find out that 3 makes a complete collection. If you can do one, you really can do three. You can. Seriously. Once you realize this, anything is possible.

Dinosaurs
I’m a late onset Dinosaur fan. Most kids discover dinosaurs early. This kid was late. One year, coming off Inktober, I wanted to continue to make a drawing every day for the month of November. One the one hand, I wanted to learn how to draw dinosaurs, on the other, I wanted to get better at painting men’s abs. In the world of art, you don’t have to chose. You can paint dinosaurs with abs—so I did, and the Hunky Dino Collection was born.
The more I learned about the prehistoric world, the more I wanted immerse myself in dinosaurs. Could their design be simplified? This happened about the same time I decided to stop fighting the cute. I had finally unlearned the art school dogma that cute = bad art. Which had been a totally made-up, major problem for me since I have a natural knack for cute. I went all in. What could be cuter than a cute dinosaur? A cute baby dinosaur! And that’s how the Baby Dino Collection came about.
